Moving

I've just spent two weeks in Hawaii with my family, and while it was great and very relaxing and beautiful, all I could think about was my upcoming move. Daily I'd go online and read Yelp reviews of different businesses in my neighborhood, check IKEA.com for decorating ideas, and figure out what my monthly budget was going to be like.

And now the time is finally here! I am moving in to my place starting tomorrow. My mom and I are driving over there with a load of stuff, and then we're going to measure the room before heading over to IKEA. My room doesn't have a closet so I'll need to get one of those wardrobes. I also want a bedside table and a cabinet thing from there. Here's what I have in mind:

Then I'll continue moving my stuff in over the weekend, when my Dad and boyfriend can help with the heavy lifting. The apartment is a 4 story walk-up and then my room is up a spiral staircase once you get into the apartment! Obviously my mom and I are not going to be able to bring an iron bed up all those damn stairs. Hell, I'd better love this place and stay awhile because moving out is going to be a pain in the ass.

The first step to becoming a Brooklynite...

The first step to becoming a Brooklynite is getting a place to live! I guess I should explain just how that happened for me.

I just graduated from college with a degree in Film Production in May. Last summer I had worked on "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2" and got to know a lot of the people who worked on the movie, including the Art Department Coordinator. I stayed in touch with her, and after I graduated I emailed her and asked what she was up to. She was just about to return in the TV show "Lipstick Jungle", and offered me a job on the show in the Art Department starting in August. Of course I had to take it! The only problem was that I lived in Stamford, CT and the commute would be pretty rough to their studio (Broadway Stages) in Greenpoint Brooklyn. That's where I got really lucky! My boss' son was just about to move into his own place in Williamsburg with another guy that I knew. They showed me the place and I absolutely fell in love! The place is right on Humboldt Street, which is on the not-so-well-defined border of Williamsburg and East Williamsburg.

I move in in 2 weeks, and absolutely can't wait. The photo at the top is the view from my private rooftop deck! My bedroom leads right out onto it. I am in love with you, Brooklyn. I can't wait until I am there with you.
